The Sunday Morning Ride Returns!
Tenafly Bicycle Workshop is very happy to announce the return of the Sunday morning ride!!! Starting this coming Sunday (5/10), we will resume our routine, meeting at 7:45 in the parking lot behind the bike shop. Rides will begin promptly at 8:00am, so if you would like to join us, please make every effort to get there early.
WHO?
My name is Leo Parascondola, and I've been working at TBW with Rich and Dov since August of 2008 (prior to that, during summers for former owners David Bell and Mike McTigue). I also worked at 3rd Nature (recently closed) from May 07 thru July 08.
I have been riding since 1985, casually at first, but very seriously for about 20 years. I have ridden in mountain ranges of Italy, Austria, and France and participated several times in the popular mass event of northern Italy, Maratona d'les Dolomiti, and in the gran fondo sponsored by retired Italian racer Max Lelli whose bikes are now available at TBW!
WHAT?
Our ride will leave the parking lot at TBW at 8:00 sharp, so please assemble no later than 7:45am. Remember to bring spare tubes, pump (or CO2 cartrideges), water, and food/energy bar although, as a general rule, our rides will not last long enough to generate "the bonk." Assuming no difficulties, we should return between 10:00 - 10:15am.
We CANNOT provide last minute repairs or any wrench work; however, you may grab a tube or CO2 cartridge which you can pay for when we return. Helmets are mandatory for all. NO rider will be allowed to join without a helmet! NO exceptions!
WHERE?
Some likely destinations are: Clausland State Park and Nyack; Rivervale (briefly into Rockland Co.); west and north to Saddle River Road and back; Strawtown Rd/Rockland Lake.... and so on. Suggestions for alternative destinations are welcome but must be vetted via Google Maps, May My Ride, or a similar service.
Rides will last approximately 2 hours or a wee bit over - for a distance of about 30 miles at a pace of 13-15 mph. Average speed will vary with the fitness levels of those who join us. No one will be dropped or left behind on the road. I will be responsible for assessing everyone's general fitness on the bike and judging whether they can do the full ride.
If it becomes apparent that a rider - for any reason, mechanical or otherwise - is having difficulty, I will ride back with you. If you cannot complete the ride, please bring a mobile phone so that you can call a family member or friend to guarantee transportation home.
Please be REALISTIC about your level of fitness. If you do not think you can complete a ride of 25-30 miles, do not join us until you are sure that you can complete that distance. Looking forward to meeting you all soon!
